SPIE Tampere student chapter organises it first event February 4, 2021

The International Society for Optics and Photonics, SPIE has affiliated student groups around the world which are aimed at Master and Doctoral students in the fields of optics and photonics, has established a student chapter in Tampere University. The Tampere SPIE student chapter, which is the second one in Finland, plans to work in collaboration with the other Optical Society, OSA student chapter at Tampere University and with Oulu University which hosts the other SPIE chapter. Mohsin Habib is a Ph.D. student in the Metaplasmonics research group and the newly elect president of the Tampere SPIE student chapter and Associate Professor Humeyra Caglayan is acting as the advisor of the chapter.

The SPIE Tampere chapter is now arranging its first official event to celebrate its start on February 4th, 2021 at 15:30 on Zoom. The Invited speaker is Professor Nader Engheta  from the University of Pennsylvania. His research is focused on waves and the various features and characteristics of wave-matter interaction. I his presenattion, Professor Engheta will talk about metamaterials and on his career to inspire the students. In the event the student chapter representatives will also introduce the chapter’s agenda and plans.
