The national research infrastructure on light-based technologies, FinnLight (www.finnlight.fi), seeks a project manager to coordinate and develop user services. FinnLight is a consortium between Tampere University, VTT and University of Eastern Finland offering unique expertise and infrastructure services for research, development, and innovation in Photonics.
The advancement of light-based technologies requires the development of a national research infrastructure that is researcher-driven and specifically adapted to the needs of the scientific and industrial community. The platform aims at pooling project-based tools and services into an open service cluster, generating new multidisciplinary opportunities the development of light-based technologies. The infrastructure and services cover the whole innovation value chain from the development of materials and structures with specific optics properties, to the fabrication of fully functional photonic devices and components, and up to systems integration and instruments.
Job Description
We are looking for a Project Manager to develop FinnLight research infrastructure. The job involves synchronizing external users requests, developing the external user services and interface, developing data management, gathering information about infrastructure user experiences, compiling materials to be shared, and securing funding in the upcoming instrastructure calls. The project manager will also collect user experiences and analyze them according to the infrastructure’s development needs. The position is for a fixed five-year period with possibility of extension. The manager will work at Tampere University and participate in the infrastructure network activities.
Responsibilities

- Review and disseminate suitable learning materials for the users of the infrastructure
Requirements
A suitable candidate will have an applicable Master’s degree (e.g., in Photonics, Physics or other technical sciences), with a Doctoral degree considered an advantage. We expect you to be familiar with photonics research methods and possess the ability to learn new ones. The successful candidate should have good cooperation and interpersonal skills to work with the network’s stakeholders and excellent scientific writing, presentation, and communication skills.
We offer a unique opportunity to work in an inspiring environment in a vivid national infrastructure network. The appointment will be for a fixed term starting in September 2024 till August 2029 (60 months). Salaries are based on a combination of job requirements and employees’ personal performance, in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. The monthly salary will range from 4500 EUR to 5500 EUR, depending on the applicant’s background and experience. The trial period of 6 months applies.
