In 2018–2019, the Academy of Finland has granted long-term funding for six large research, development and innovation ecosystems, Flagships, which each operate in their specific field.

The Flagship Programme pools together expertise from different fields in Finland to form high-level research and impact clusters.

Research, networking and commitment

A flagship is an effective mix of cutting-edge research, impact in support of economic growth or society, close connections to the business sector and society at large, adaptability, and a strong commitment from host organisations. They constitute high-quality, high-impact competence clusters that work in flexible ways, simultaneously running several projects and activities.

Supporting future

The Flagship programme supports future knowledge, know-how and sustainable solutions to societal challenges and advances economic growth by developing new business opportunities. In addition, it accelerates active collaboration between different actors and facilitates the development expansion and systematic operations within the fields of the Flagships.

One of the goals of the Academy of Finland is to promote and help disseminate the information on research results and innovation transfer of the flagships and increase the impact of the flagships’ outreach activities.
