Master of Science in Imaging and Light in Extended Reality, IMLEX, a programme coordinated by  University of eastern Finland and organised together with Toyohashi University of Technology in Japan was selected as one of the fist Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree progammes between EU and Japan.  In addition to UEF and Toyohashi University of Technology, Université Jean Monnet Saint-Etienne in France and KU Leuven in Belgium are also participating. At UEF, the programme is carried out by the Institute of Photonics and the School of Computing. The IMLEX programme intakes will be in 2020-2023.

The photonics flagship PREIN is now connected to three Erasmus Mundus programmes. The previously funded Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree, EUROPHOTONICS in Tampere and Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree
in Colour in Science and Industry, COSI  in Joensuu.

The EUROPHOTONICS programme covers the specialisations in photonics engineering, biomedical imaging, quantum optics, laser optics, optics for astronomy, nanophotonics and biophotonics. The EUROPHOTONICS programme  is organized by Aix Marseille Université (FRANCE) (coordinator), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology KSOP  (GERMANY), Barcelona Universities (SPAIN), Tampere University (FINLAND) and Vilnius University (LITHUANIA) and received funding for the intakes in 2019-2022.

The COSI programme trains experts in applied colour science, in various cutting-edge industries (photonics, optics, spectral imaging, multimedia technologies, computer graphics and vision). The programme is coordinated by  University Jean Monnet (FRANCE), and the partners are University of Granada (SPAIN), Norwegian University of Science and Technology and University of Eastern Finland.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree Programmes are high-level degree programmes offered jointly by consortia of several universities. Funding is awarded to Erasmus Mundus programmes for the programme activities and for covering the costs of student scholarships.
