Re-opening of several doctoral research positions

Aug 14, 2024 – A new re-opening round for several doctoral positions is now ongoing! See the positions below and apply soonest, since the application time is short:

Doctoral 1st round applications and take-ins

Aug 13, 2024 – There were over 700 applications in the first round for all the 72 places. The second application round was opened for a few positions (5) in Tampere University. There were 40 applications in total received for the 5 positions which were reopened. Each I-DEEP partner university will handle the application process individually and inform all the applicants about the selection decisions once they are finalized. The process timing in the different universities varies but all the selection decisions were made in June with the work contracts prepared. All applicants were informed about the selection decision by the university where they applied for during June 2024.

The first PhD researchers are starting their work in August 2024, and about half of the selected PhD researchers will start on January 1st 2025.  The interviews related to the selection are carried out by the research group leaders who can provide more information on the process related to an individual position.

Applications were received internationally, with Pakistan, Finland, India, Iran, China as the biggest applicant countries. There were also individual applicants from other counties in Europe (Germany, Belgium, Italy, France, Portugal)  and some African and South-American applicants as well.

Re-opening of several positions:

Aug 13, 2024 – There are several positions that will be re-opened during the autumn:

  • 2 positions in Tampere University
  • 2 positions in University of Eastern Finland
  • 2 positions in Aalto University
  • 1 position in University of Oulu

Re-opening will be informed shortly.

New National Recommendations on Doctoral Training

Aug 1, 2024 – The Council of Rectors of Finnish Universities, UNIFI, has published in June 2024 the new recommendations for doctoral training. The recommendations of the report are not limited to the doctoral pilots but apply to Finnish doctoral research training in all universities and fields.The joint recommendations are intended to highlight good practice and suggest nationally unified approaches to doctoral researcher training in Finnish universities.

The main aims are to:

  • speed up graduation
  • strengthen the quality and impact of researcher training
  • increase the attractiveness of researcher training
  • strengthen the relevance of doctoral training to working life
