This autumn, Valoa perheille invites everyone to join a thrillingly fun adventure: the Halloween Afterparty!
The University of Eastern Finland, University of Eastern Finland LUMA Centre and the Photonics Research and Innovation Flagship PREIN warmly welcome you to the Valoa perheille event on Saturday, 7 November 2026, from 10 am to 2 pm at Botania Art Garden in Joensuu. This will be the seventh Valoa perheille event. Over the years, it has brought photonics—the study of light—closer to children, young people and families.
This time, Halloween doesn’t end in October—the celebrations continue into November! The Halloween Afterparty brings together science, light and the atmospheric mystery of autumn in a fun event for the whole family. Using light, we’ll explore shadows, glowing colours, optical illusions and other fascinating phenomena that make the darkness of autumn feel magical.
Children aged approximately 3–12 can look forward to an exciting Halloween-themed activity trail, where they’ll solve riddles and discover the secrets of light in a fun, hands-on way. Younger children can take part with an adult, while older children can explore independently. During the day, visitors can also make their own light-inspired Halloween keepsakes and try out a range of science activities where light reveals surprising things about the world around us.
Botania Art Garden’s unique setting provides the perfect backdrop for the event. In the autumn dusk, the lush greenery of the greenhouses, atmospheric lighting and Halloween decorations create a memorable experience for the whole family.
The event is free of charge and open to everyone. Come and enjoy a fun autumn day with your family, soak up the Halloween atmosphere, learn more about light and the wonders of science, and enjoy spending time together.
