I-DEEP Events

I-DEEP Innovative Doctoral Education Ecosystem for Photonics includes several events either joint events for every doctoral researchers in the ecosystem, or locally arranged events.

Annual events for the doctoral researchers will be arranged in order to researchers to present their research and for follow-up on the progression of studies and research.

Thematic events and training on soft skills are also offered to the doctoral researchers.

The information on the events will be published on this web page regularly.

  • Industry Connect matchmaking event October 6, 2025, at 12-16 in Radisson Blue Hotel in Helsinki. In the matcmaking event organised jointly by Technology Industries Finland and the doctoral Pilots in Microelectronics, Photonics and Quantum the doctoral researchers and their supervisors have the opportunity to meet with industry representatives. We hope all doctoral pilot researchers in I-DEEP join this event to meet with other doctoral pilot researchers and with relevant companies. This is a great opportunity to network and make matches with companies.
    • Registration
Register now for the event by filling in the form: https://www.lyyti.in/doctoral-pilots2025
There is a registration fee, 100€ includes the programme featuring introduction of the pilots, organized and free matchmaking, lunch and coffee. All participants need to pay the fee.

Please note that you may need to organise your travel and possible accommodation in Helsinki yourself.  If there are many participants from a partner university, the local I-DEEP contact person may help in organising bus transfer.
    • Funding
All doctoral researchers in I-DEEP should have money allocated for travelling and participation in events that may be used for attending this event (participation fee, travel, accommodation).
  • Joensuu Summer School on Optics August 18-22, 2025. The learning outcomes in this summer school are to equip students with the skills and mindset needed to drive innovation in the field of photonics. Participants will get insights on trends in photonics, get familiarized with principles like design thinking and problem-solving, and develop techniques for generating and refining ideas
  • Markus Pessa Summer School New Frontiers in Optical Technologies will be organized on August 11 – 15, 2025 in Tampere. The themes of the summer school will cover Advanced laser technology Quantum optics, optical systems and sensing, fiber technology and applications and photonic integration
  • Free Student Event at PREIN Day in OPD 2025, June 3 at 13-15, 2025. Professor Emeritus Aarne Mämmelä will share valuable tips on writing and publishing scientific articles. You will hear the publisher’s perspective on manuscripts and the publication process. A general structure of a scientific paper and a practical example of writing an abstract will be discussed in the workshop. You will have the opportunity to ask questions from the workshop presenter.
